you will join a crew of 4 to operate the bridge of a federation star ship as you attempt to coordinate each stations capabilities while problem solving your way through various challenges on your way to meeting all your mission objectives. The crew consist of Helm, engineering, tactical, and captain with each crew member getting the chance to be the captain and make the tough decisions that could mean the difference between life and death!
The captain oversees the status of the ship and gives orders to each of their officers. He or she is also able to take over each role position to perform actions personally.
The helm controls the ship itself. They fly the ship and are also responsible for Impulse and Warp travels.
The engineer controls the energy flow of the ship. They can direct energy to specific systems and manage repairs of the ship.
The tactical officer is responsible for weapons, shields and targeting. They fire the ship's weapons (Phasers or Photon Torpedos) at enemies and raise or lower the shields.
A few systems are shared between the Engineer, Helm and Tactical: the transporter and the System intrusion. All Stations are able to control these systems but only one station at a time can open the panel.
FOR EACH MISSION YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A MISSION GUIDE THAT WILL GUIDE YOUR THROUGH YOUR MISSION AND INFORM YOUR SYTEMS THINKING AND STRATEGIC ADJUSTMENTS IN BETWEEN RUNS OF THE MISSION.
EACH CREW MEMBER WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO PLAY THE ROLE OF THE CAPTAIN AS YOU ROTATE PLAYING EACH OF THE 4 CREW POSITIONS.
AFTER EACH RUN OF THE MISSION, YOUR TEAM WILL CONDUCT A POST MISSION DEBRIEFING TO DISCUSS AND PROBLEM SOLVE WHAT IS AND IS NOT WORKING, STRATEGY AND TACTICS, AND WAYS TO IMPROVE COORDINATION AMONG CREW STATIONS.
what you will learn and PRACTICE
you will be using the same mission guides and self-assessment tools developed by Mr.Lichtenwalter that are now being used in the US Air Force Academy in the leadership department for Distance Learning at Air University at Maxwell Air force base.
Before you Arrive to the EDUCATION IMMERSION CENTER, DOWNLOAD THE MISSION GUIDE AND look over the assessment rubrics to understand what you should be looking to demonstrate during your star trek bridge CREW missionS. the assessments are self-scored and you will assess both yourself and your crew mates across a wide range of criteria, so best to come with knowledge of these rubrics in advance.
Areas you will assess each other in include systems thinking, situational awareness, effective use of communication, the ability to reflect critically, compromise, interdependence, sharing responsibility, dealing with criticism, and developing new ideas and solutions, to name some of them.
